What’s new in Cat Quest II?
In this return, Cat Quest II continues to take us to a world where a kingdom of cats and dogs exists. While the first game featured Felingard – the kingdom of cats – Cat Quest II introduces the Lupus Empire – the empire of dogs. It is known that the two kingdoms of cats and dogs have a long-standing feud and frequently clash.
Ironically, both the dog king and the cat king were overthrown from their thrones, and then they met. This sets the stage for the journey in Cat Quest II – the journey of two kings reclaiming their thrones. They overcome generational conflicts, fight together, defeat the forces manipulating war, and restore peace to both kingdoms. So how will this journey unfold? Find out in Cat Quest II.
Gameplay
Cat Quest II can be considered an expansion with many new features in both storyline and gameplay compared to the first game. First, you are no longer alone but have a companion, the dog king. Along with the new character, we continue to explore the story by battling other enemies. The controls remain simple touch and drag, everything is automated in the simplest way possible.
However, the combat pace in Cat Quest II is relatively fast. With some enemies, you need to be quick to dodge attacks and combine hit-and-run tactics to gain an advantage. If you maintain a steady combat rhythm, no enemy will be able to pose a challenge to you. Additionally, you can switch between two characters to gain an extra damage advantage and proactively use skills. Cat Quest II’s co-op mode allows two players to explore together. Discover the kingdoms of cats and dogs
As mentioned above, in Cat Quest II we enter a larger land with the appearance of the Canine Empire. The game map retains its characteristic style of a continuous open world, unless you enter a dungeon or teleportation tower where the map is refreshed. Below is information about both kingdoms that we have gathered, for your reference:
- Felingard – The Kingdom of Cats: A very familiar place if you’ve played the first game. It boasts lush green meadows, small towns, and a plethora of cats. Of course, with a dog as your companion, you might encounter a few minor difficulties while exploring this place.
- Lupus Empire – The Dog Empire: A new land in Cat Quest II, known for its arid landscapes and vast deserts. It boasts numerous dungeons that are far more dangerous than those in Felingard. It also holds many stories revealing the history of conflict between dogs and cats.
Some of the awards Cat Quest II has achieved
After spending some time experiencing and learning about Cat Quest II, we found that while the game hasn’t won any major awards yet, it has received quite a few nominations in major categories such as Best Indie Game at the Golden Joystick Awards 2019, NAVGTR Awards, and SEA Game Awards. However, the game has been very positively reviewed by both the gaming community and critics for its presentation. Specifically:
- The cartoon-style graphics are very cute, with simple yet lively character designs. Combined with bright colors and somewhat humorous combat effects, it creates a game that is friendly to all ages.
- In terms of music, Cat Quest II is also quite successful in creating a cheerful and dramatic atmosphere during combat. Overall, the music isn’t particularly outstanding, but it works well when combined with the cute graphics.
