Doki Doki Literature Club! is a visual novel game, a genre extremely popular in the Japanese video game market. In Doki Doki Literature Club!, you play as an ordinary high school student, with a name you choose yourself at the start of the game.

The cast of characters is incredibly complex
The literature club in Doki Doki Literature Club! has a total of 5 members. Besides you, the main character, there are 4 other girls. Each girl has a unique appearance that reflects her personality. Furthermore, each girl in the literature club has her own story, which will be revealed as you play the game.
Sayori – the childhood friend
In Doki Doki Literature Club!, Sayori is the first person you meet, and also serves as the protagonist’s childhood friend. Sayori has short, light pinkish-orange hair and is of average height. She is the vice president of the literature club, possessing a kind personality and always willing to help those around her. However, Sayori also has a fragile and vulnerable soul.
Yuri – the quiet girl
Yuri is a member of the literature club in Doki Doki Literature Club!. Yuri has long purple hair and a slightly fuller, more mature figure than the other club members. Her personality is extremely quiet, shy, and introverted. However, she also has a strong tendency to express herself and a desire to be liked by others.
Yuri is one of the most complex characters in the game. She’s also a “ticking time bomb” that could trigger shocking events in the Doki Doki Literature Club storyline!
Natsuki – the stubborn girl
In Doki Doki Literature Club!, Natsuki is the complete opposite of Yuri. She’s petite, with light pink hair tied in two braids. Natsuki is impulsive, hot-tempered, and sometimes arrogant. But alongside that, Natsuki also possesses compassion and cares deeply for her friends.
As mentioned above, Natsuki and Yuri are complete contrasts in both appearance and personality. This detail greatly influences the plot development of Doki Doki Literature Club!
Monika – the president of the club
Monika is a well-rounded girl, intelligent, thoughtful, and kind. As the president of the literature club in Doki Doki Literature Club!, Monika is always the driving force behind the story. However, Monika has a few secrets. The story of Doki Doki Literature Club! will gradually reveal Monika’s secrets.
A super fun poetry writing minigame
Doki Doki Literature Club!, with its “Literature Club” as the main setting, is a central theme in the game. The development team didn’t forget this, and they cleverly incorporated a minigame related to the main theme – a poetry writing minigame.
After getting acquainted with the literature club and the girls, you’ll participate in a poetry activity. In this activity, you’ll choose words to write a poem. Each word increases one of the three girls—Sayuri, Yuri, and Natsuki—likeness the poem. Once the poem is complete, depending on your word choices, one of the three girls will continue to accompany you in her own personal story.
Although it only appears briefly in Doki Doki Literature Club!, the poetry-writing minigame is the most important content for unlocking the entire game.
