The farming mechanism in Honey Grove
As a farm simulation game, farming is the main focus of Honey Grove. Like other games in the same genre, Honey Grove’s farming area is designed in an isometric style. The farm area is divided into diamond-shaped cells, arranged along a two-dimensional XY isometric axis at a 60-degree angle. In the Seedings interface in the bottom right corner of the screen, you can select and plant seeds by dragging and dropping them into an empty cell on the farm. You can only plant one seed per cell.
Growing and harvesting of plants
All plants in Honey Grove have 5 stages, including 4 growth stages and 1 harvest stage. During the plant’s growth stages, you need to signal the bees to care for the plant by touching it. The bees will need a few seconds to care for it, depending on the type of plant. After being cared for, the plant will need more time, from a few seconds to a few minutes, to develop to the next stage.
In Honey Grove, once a plant reaches its harvesting stage, you simply touch it to allow the bees to harvest it. Honey Grove also divides crops into two types: seasonal and single-harvest. Single-harvest crops are usually root vegetables; after the first harvest, the plant disappears, leaving you with an empty plot of land. Seasonal crops are flowers and fruit trees. These can be harvested more than once, while flowers continuously provide nectar without needing to be harvested.
For crops in Honey Grove, after harvesting, they enter state 6 – the resting state. In this state, the plants need a considerable amount of time, several hours, before returning to the harvesting state. You can bypass this state by watering the plants. However, water is a scarce resource in Honey Grove, so consider this before using it.
The types of crops are extremely diverse
Honey Grove has a total of 113 different types of plants, divided into 5 levels.
- Common – 21 types
- Uncommon – 20 types
- Rare – 17 types
- Epic – 12 types
- Legendary – 43 types
Each type of plant has a distinctive appearance; the higher the level of the plant, the more beautiful it looks, and the more valuable the harvested product. Whenever a new plant germinates from a seed you sow, information about that plant will be saved in the Collections.
Discovery mechanism in Honey Grove
This content runs parallel to and complements the farming content throughout the entire duration of Honey Grove. You can deploy scout bees to explore areas around the hive to gather resources, seeds, complete side quests, or interact with the surrounding animals. Each exploration activity requires at least one bee, a few drops of honey, and a certain amount of time to complete. In later stages of Honey Grove, when your hive has more scout bees, you can assign more bees to an exploration activity to reduce completion time.
Most exploration activities require nectar to complete. Therefore, your farm in Honey Grove should have plenty of flowers at harvest stage to continuously replenish nectar, supporting the exploration activities of the scout bees.
Research system within the beehive
The research system can be considered a minigame in Honey Grove. Research activities are conducted on a research table inside the beehive, designed with hexagonal tiles arranged in a sequence. During exploration or farming activities, you can obtain material pieces. You can place these material pieces on the research table, then assemble them to obtain complete materials.
The crafting mechanism in Honey Grove works by dragging a piece of material into a slot of the same type. All adjacent slots containing the same type of material will be combined according to the formula: 3 pieces of material create 1 complete material. Excess material pieces from the crafting process will be returned to the research table slot. The crafting mechanism will not occur if there are fewer than 3 pieces of the same type of material.
Unlike other farming games, Honey Grove doesn’t have a shop to buy seeds. Therefore, exploration and research are the two main ways to collect seeds for planting.
