Initiative 23 MOD APK is a survival game set in a post-apocalyptic world with a zombie apocalypse. The game operates from a top-down, third-person perspective. From my initial impression, it has pretty good 3D graphics and a relatively satisfying shooting mechanism.
Introduce about Initiative 23
Background
Due to global warming, in 2015, a new species of worm was discovered in the glaciers of Alaska. It carried the RNA of an ancient virus dating back approximately 50,000 years. This virus possessed extremely unique properties; upon entering host cells, it could modify those cells. Following the discovery of this virus-carrying organism, a research and extraction project was launched. The new virus was named Theseus, and research on it was divided among 22 laboratories codenamed Initiative.
Essentially, Theseus could accelerate the process of evolution and unlock new possibilities in the field of genetic engineering. A mysterious man named Victor Eckert, whom you will seek out throughout Initiative 23, considers Theseus a miracle cure. The virus he modified in his lab successfully eradicated pathogens in infected bodies.
However, there are secrets yet to be revealed. Now, civilization has been wiped out by a mutated zombie epidemic caused by a mysterious virus. You, one of the world’s few survivors, are tasked with uncovering the secrets of the Initiative-23 laboratory, finding Victor Eckert and Patient Zero. That information will help you discover the origin and how to fight the epidemic.
Control and aiming mechanism
Initiative 23 features a basic control scheme, similar to most first-person or third-person mobile games. The game provides a virtual joystick in the bottom left corner of the screen, allowing you to control your character in the direction you specify. There’s also a virtual joystick in the bottom right corner, allowing you to adjust your character’s aiming direction.
When your finger is on the right joystick, your character will raise their weapon and enter aiming mode. At that point, Initiative 23 will display a red line – the crosshair representing the firing range of your weapon. If one or more enemies are visible in the crosshair, your character will fire at the nearest enemy in the crosshair.
You can aim using the right joystick at any time. In Initiative 23, aiming doesn’t affect movement speed, allowing you to prepare your crosshair before engaging the undead. Additionally, you can aim and run simultaneously, in any direction you want. This is a very flexible mechanism, allowing you to run in one direction but shoot in the opposite. However, firing will briefly reduce your movement speed. This reduction lasts from the moment the character fires until they have stabilized their weapon.
The character has unlimited ammo, but the ammunition in the gun is not. When the ammo runs out, the character will need a short time to reload. If you are in a safe state and not threatened by zombies, you can manually reload even when the gun still has ammo using the virtual reload button on the right edge of the screen.
Actions of the character
Besides movement and attack, Initiative 23 also offers several skills to add depth to the gameplay. Your character has a rolling animation, allowing you to quickly escape from hordes of zombies or dodge their long-range attacks. The character can also throw grenades, dealing massive area-of-effect damage. Both of these animations have a relatively long cooldown after use.
Initiative 23 provides you with a multi-functional virtual button that you can use to pick up items, climb, or perform special interactions with objects in the game. When low on health, you can use the virtual “bandage” button to restore half of your character’s maximum health. However, each healing will cost you one bandage.
Upgrade your base and craft tools
In the early stages of Initiative 23, your character will find an abandoned building and choose it as their base. Here, you can craft weapons for combat, and clothing to withstand enemy attacks. You can also craft medical tools to heal yourself during combat. However, crafting blueprints are not unlocked from the start. As you play, you must upgrade your base and crafting tables to create better weapons and equipment. Upgrade materials can be collected from levels.
