According to the information we’ve gathered, PROJECT: PLAYTIME was released in 2022, right after Poppy Playtime – Chapter 2: Fly in a Web. However, this game is not the third installment in this popular series. It’s a multiplayer spin-off that opens up parallel events to the main storyline. The game’s events take place at the Playtime Co. toy factory – a familiar location in the Poppy Playtime universe.
PROJECT: PLAYTIME’s content doesn’t focus too much on a linear storyline or continuation of the sequel, but rather serves as an introduction to the Playtime Co. factory. Players will explore everything themselves and search for small pieces of the plot. Some information about the types of monsters and why they were created may also appear here. Overall, PROJECT: PLAYTIME was created to add depth to this universe of the same name.
Gameplay
In PROJECT: PLAYTIME, we’ll dive into battles between the collecting team and the monsters. Each level features up to 7 players, divided into one monster and six collecting teams. To win, each team needs to:
- Monster Faction: Find and eliminate all surviving members of the Collector Faction.
- Collector Faction: Up to six people must work together to find parts for a toy. Collect enough parts to assemble the complete toy and leave the factory. You can use the GrabPack with two robotic arms to solve puzzles and support each other.
You could say that PROJECT: PLAYTIME is just like a game of chase. Depending on whether you’re on the chasing or catching side, the objectives will differ. Note that each movement leaves footprints that last for a few seconds, take advantage of this to win!
Modes
Appearing as an expansion pack that adds content to the main storyline, PROJECT: PLAYTIME doesn’t have many game modes. Especially with the Android port version, you can only experience the main game mode. Simply select Play, and you can choose:
- Quick Play: Automatically connects you with other players. If there are too few players online, the game will create a bot to play with you.
- Host Game: Create your own game room where you can invite friends or other players to join.
- Server List: Contains a list of game rooms; you can also search for game rooms created by your friends here.
Strategies for survivors
As mentioned above, the collecting team consists of the survivors, including the player. To achieve ultimate victory, everyone needs a specific strategy. You can’t just run around searching and get caught by monsters, right? Their task is usually to collect toy parts from mini-games scattered throughout the factory. Then, assemble them and escape the factory.
That’s the plan, but we need to clearly divide the tasks: some need someone to keep watch or attract monsters, others to rescue and support teammates, and some to focus on decoding and repairing… These are all experiences from previous players. If you and your friends are new players, try referring to this strategy.
What should the monsters in PROJECT: PLAYTIME do?
If you choose the monster faction, you’ll have more characters to choose from, such as Huggy Wuggy with high movement speed, Mommy Long Legs with high mobility, and Boxy Boo specializing in ambushes. Each monster possesses unique active and passive skills to capture all remaining players. The main objective of the monster faction is simple: find and eliminate all surviving players through hunting and control.
Personally, I find that playing PROJECT: PLAYTIME as a monster makes it easier for new players to get started. Your job is simply to hunt. Of course, you can also observe other players performing mini-games to gain experience. Or, if you’re playing alone, choosing the monster side is also a good option.
