Exactly one year after the release of Ice Scream 3, Ice Scream 4: Rod’s Factory was launched, continuing the unfinished story. Rod Sullivan’s past is once again revealed within his family’s ice cream factory. If you’ve played the previous installments, you definitely shouldn’t miss this sequel. In this fourth game, Rod has captured the entire group and taken them to his ice cream factory, a rather mysterious place heavily guarded by intelligent robots. When the game begins, the group is locked in a special room. After breaking the lock, J Brown knocks out the guard and begins to find a way to get his friends out of there.
Gameplay
Ice Scream 4: Rod’s Factory retains the signature gameplay of the series: stealth, avoiding enemies, collecting items to solve puzzles, and exploring the entire game. This time, you play as J Brown – the clever boy trying to save all his friends. However, in this fourth installment, he faces even more enemies right in Rod’s stronghold, the Sullivan family’s ice cream factory.
A new space, a new environment, will naturally reveal more information about Rod Sullivan. There are more cutscenes here, revealing more details. Additionally, you can choose the game’s difficulty level in more detail, with difficulty settings ranging from Easy, Normal to Hard and Ghost. Don’t forget that Rod now has allies, and they’re not going to hold back!
New features compared to the previous game
After some time experiencing and researching, we realized that Ice Scream 4: Rod’s Factory has quite a few new features compared to the part 3:
- First, the setting is condensed into a factory area.
- Many new enemies appear, acting as guards and patrols within the factory. If caught by them or Rod, you are forced to start from the previous save point.
- There are more places you can use for cover, such as ventilation shafts or even the prison cages themselves.
- The storyline, in our opinion and that of the gaming community in general, is much more interesting and clearer.
- The deep puzzles involving machinery are quite engaging, especially for those who enjoy deciphering.
Ice Scream 4: Rod’s Factory and the vast labyrinth
It’s safe to say that the ice cream factory in Ice Scream 4: Rod’s Factory is like a vast labyrinth. You’ll not only experience corridors with numerous turns but also explore stifling ventilation shafts. You can learn a little about the different areas of the factory here:
- Prison Cells: A place with many cages used to confine children, guarded by a small robot.
- Production Area: The heart of the factory, with numerous machines, conveyor belts, and pipes. There are many puzzles related to machine operation here.
- Control Room: You can go here to control the electrical system and some of the machinery. A heavily guarded area with many of Rod’s robots.
- Maintenance Area: Contains many machine parts, a great place to find necessary items.
- Ventilation System: A safe passage through the areas. However, it can sometimes cause you to get stuck or lost.
Graphics and sound
Overall, due to its relatively recent release, the graphics and sound of Ice Scream 4: Rod’s Factory aren’t highly rated today. The game’s graphics remain relatively simple compared to newer 3D horror games. However, this could be considered a characteristic that the Ice Scream series is trying to build. Nevertheless, the developers have successfully combined graphics and sound to create a truly terrifying atmosphere. The tension during the escape and stealth is quite realistic, it’s not jump-startling but very suspenseful when facing enemies.
