Coming from an indie studio called Tsunoa Games, Sengodai was released on December 12, 2025, on various platforms. This game is known as a popular card strategy game from this Spanish studio. What’s going on in Sengodai?
Overall, Sengodai doesn’t have much linear dialogue; instead, it focuses on storytelling through your exploration and battles. As you play, you’ll realize that this is a land of elements, inhabited by creatures born from those elements – Gokai. However, this world is gradually changing. The Elemental Gods are losing their power, becoming corrupted into Cursed Gods. This has led to many cursed lands and the mutation of the Gokai.
As an Elemental God tasked with restoring the world, you must find a way to gather the Gokai and cleanse the cursed lands. This is no easy journey, a long one filled with many battles. Gather strength through each battle, defeat the Cursed Gods, and bring peace to the land of Sengodai!
Gameplay
After playing Sengodai for a while, I personally find that this game has more complex gameplay mechanics than other games in the same genre. Compared to popular titles like Slay the Spire or Monster Train, Sengodai is quite difficult in the early stages, but that’s mainly because players need time to get used to it. There are quite a few things you need to pay attention to, such as:
- First, you need to learn about Gokai cards, collect them, and build your team before going into battle.
- Next, participate in battles with randomly assigned paths. This game has quite unique rules with many types of resources you need to pay attention to, such as elements, Gokai stamina, and the state of the land.
- Finally, if you win, you continue; otherwise, you are forced to fight again from the beginning. However, your cards remain unchanged, so don’t worry too much about facing tough opponents.
What should we pay attention to during a match of Sengodai?
To start a match in Sengodai, you need at least three Gokai to face the Cursed God. Each time a match begins, you need to consider the following:
- Life Points: The side whose life points reach zero first loses.
- God: Your Elemental God cards; each god has a special skill that can change the course of your battle if used at the right time.
- Gokai: Elemental monster cards that you deploy in battle; each Gokai has a limited amount of damage and turns, so you need to adjust carefully.
- Deck: The deck containing your elemental cards. Each turn, you draw five random cards that can interact with Gokai and enhance their power.
- Purify Cursed Lands: Cursed lands on the battlefield – areas you must fight your enemies to remove.
A long journey awaits you!
Right from the start of your journey in Sengodai, you’ll find it’s vast and filled with cursed lands. There are five distinct areas, however, most are locked in the early stages of the game. Each area has its own unique characteristics in terms of environmental effects, events, maps, and exploration paths. Of course, at the end of the journey are the powerful Cursed Gods – the final bosses. Some areas feature vast jungles like Haen Forest, or rocky plateaus. If you’re lucky, you might even unlock the icy mountain region after conquering Haen Forest.
Although Sengodai only takes up about 1.37GB of space, it has successfully created a vast world with diverse terrain and gameplay. Of course, every journey has its difficulties and setbacks, but I believe we can all conquer it soon.
