Improvements in environmental design
The environment in Serious Sam: The Second Encounter is significantly improved compared to its predecessor. Visually, the game’s areas are more meticulously crafted. The details on ancient structures, vegetation, and mountain ranges are highly detailed. The game also features a diverse range of environmental themes across its levels.
The protagonist of Serious Sam: The Second Encounter doesn’t just fight in pyramid areas like in the previous game. Following the main storyline, you, from the protagonist’s perspective, will adventure through various themed areas, from tropical jungles and Mesopotamian ruins to ancient European fortresses.
Serious Sam: The Second Encounter also places greater emphasis on the height and width of the levels. Serious Sam: The Second Encounter also has a few areas with limited lighting. These are areas where sound becomes a major factor in gameplay. You need to listen to the sounds around you to easily identify the direction of monster attacks from the darkness.
New weapons in Serious Sam: The Second Encounter
Serious Sam: The Second Encounter introduces four new weapons, but their mechanics are completely opposite. The game gives you a chainsaw, allowing you to engage in close combat with large groups of monsters. However, it also provides a sniper rifle, enabling you to take down or chip away at single enemies from extremely long distances. The other two new weapons in Serious Sam: The Second Encounter are a flamethrower and a Serious Bomb. One weapon incinerates monsters for an extended period, while the other blows them away instantly.
